Jon Zmikly originally moved from Michigan to Texas in 2007 to pursue a master’s degree at Texas State University. After taking just a few digital media grad courses and attending SXSW Interactive for the first time, he began to realize how much the internet was disrupting the traditional media industry and saw that as an opportunity to change media for the better. In 2008, he began building websites for smaller clients and campus organizations while studying the power of branding through social media. Through many opportunities afforded him at Texas State University, he has heard from some of the most influential people in tech, like Mark Zuckerberg, Gary Vaynerchuk, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Evan Williams, and Chris Anderson.

Jon is currently a digital media teacher in the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Texas State University where he teaches web design and a survey course on the fundamentals of online media. He is also the content manager and editor for the SJMC's website, blog and social media accounts, and he works on freelance web projects outside of his work at Texas State.
